‘LAID IN EARTH’ - Celebrating Paradise

Music Festival to Celebrate Paradise
The Queensland Music Festival and Cook Shire invite you to gather around the iconic Musical Ship at Cooktown’s Endeavour Park on Saturday 1st August for an afternoon of incredible music and performance to celebrate life in tropical Far North Queensland.
Opening the event will be Mothership, an innovative work which brings together professional percussionists with around forty primary school students. Following the percussion ensemble will be FNQ’s own Deadly Award winning band ‘Black Image’ who will premiere fresh, original songs and a brand new ‘unplugged’ sound; Sydney wind ensemble ‘Kurrawong’; and local songstress ‘Emma Louise’.
As the sun sets on Cooktown, the unique voices of the Hope Vale Choir will herald in the performance of an original composition by Australian composer Damian Barbeler. Popular singer Sarah Blasko will perform alongside a mass choir drawn from the communities of Hope Vale, Rossville and Cooktown and a chamber music ensemble created for this world premiere event.
This superb new musical work, supported by stunning visual projections, will highlight the extraordinary diversity, beauty, tragedy and challenges of living in paradise.
This free event is being staged as part of the 2009 Queensland Music Festival program with the support of Cook Shire Council. The music program will commence at 3.30pm and the festivities will include an array of market and food stalls.
