Animal Registration Animal Registration

Cook Shire Council's Local Law No. 2 (Keeping and Control of Animals) 2008 requires all dogs and cats within the local government area to be registered. Exemptions apply for working dogs.
Registered dogs and cats are required to display registration tags at all times. Penalties apply.

For the purposes of registration Council has a two tiered fee structure. Owners of dogs within towns are required to pay full registration. Owners outside towns and all cat owners may apply for a 'tag only' registration.
The following are considered as towns under Local Law No. 2 (Keeping and Control of Animals) 2008: Ayton, Coen, Cooktown, Lakeland, Laura and Marton. Please contact Council for information as to where these town boundaries extend.
In an effort to promote responsible pet ownership Council offers considerable registration discounts to owners of de-sexed animals. Council encourages all pet owners to take advantage of these discounts and help reduce the number off unwanted animals in our community.
