Council have set up various Advisory Committees to provide advice and expertise on specific areas of Council services, facilities or programs. A summary of the Advisory Committees are listed below. Further details can be obtained from the Executive Assistant via email or 07 4069 5444.
Community Events Centre Advisory Committee
This Committee was formerly known as Sports and Convention Centre Advisory Committee and was created in October 2004.
AIMS: To have Council, State Departments such as Cooktown State School P-12, Police, Queensland Health along with locally based sporting, community and youth associations and any other interested party join together to acquire this much needed multi-purpose facility.
Coen Advisory Group
This committee was established in September 2013.
AIMS: To provide advice and recommendations to Council on Local Government matters relating to the Coen community. To ensure a broad representation of the Coen community through the ratepayers, residents, various agencies and land trusts.
Cooktown 2020 Advisory Committee
This committee was established in 2014.
AIMS: Develop and coordinate the Cooktown 2020 celebrations and programme of events.
Waymburr Botanic Gardens Precinct Advisory Committee
This committee was initially formed in 2005 and has taken a new focus in 2015.
AIMS: To oversee, guide and advise Council on the revitalisation of Nature’s Powerhouse facility and the Botanic Gardens precinct in preparation of the 2020 celebrations.
Regional Arts Development Advisory Committee
First created pre-1998 but the most recent appointment of members was October 2015.
AIMS: Assist the delivery of Arts Queensland and Council investment by promoting the program and assessing and providing recommendations to Council on grant applications.
Waterfront Advisory Committee
Established in December 2013
AIMS: To advise Council on the planning and development of the Waterfront area.
Invasive Plants and Animals Advisory Committee
Established in September 2016
AIMS: To provide input into the Biosecurity Plan for Cook Shire and serve as a forum to share knowledge on pest management and other biosecurity matters and discuss emerging issues and projects.
