Work Experience

Come and see what working in local government is all about

Cook Shire Council works closely with local schools and community members to develop work experience opportunities with the aim of allowing students to become familiar with positions/careers, employer expectations and working conditions.

As Council delivers a diverse portfolio of services, we are also able to offer a wide range of work experience from environmental services to marketing to administration.

The number of work experience placements available with Council depends on the ability of the work area to provide effective on the job experience at a time suitable to both the divisional area and the student.

Eligibility for participation

Council offers work experience in various divisional areas of Council to students in high schools, TAFE colleges, universities and from approved work experience referral agencies.

Work experience positions are unpaid and students must be registered with a recognised school, tertiary institution or referral agency that covers them for personal insurance and public liability.  Proof of public liability coverage will be required.

If the applicant is under the age of 18, and their application for work experience with Council is successful the applicant's school will be required to provide a work experience agreement.  The agreement will require the parent/guardian/caregiver's consent before placement can commence.
