Shade and safety top priority for Lion's Park Playground

Cook Shire Council is pleased to present three proposed designs for the upgrade of the playground equipment at the Lion’s Park on Charlotte Street in Cooktown to the community for public consultation

Cook Shire Council Mayor Peter Scott said “The Lions Park Playground is much loved by local families and visitors to Cooktown, but the equipment is definitely in need of an update. The new equipment will bring the space up to modern expectations for outdoor play areas and revitalise the area for generations to come.”

The project, that is being funded by COVID Works for Queensland program, will see the current playground equipment replaced with new, compliant play equipment in a fenced play enclosure featuring a soft-fall safety surface. It also includes installation of a new solid roofed structure to create a safe, fun and vibrant space that caters for a wide age group (ages 3 to 13).

The three playground proposals will be on display at the Cooktown Library and in the public reception at the Council’s main administration building (located at 10 Furneaux Street, Cooktown) from 22 October – 6 November 2020. There will also be pop-up displays at the schools, PCYC and the Cooktown Markets during this period, with dates to be advised.

Residents and parents are invited to view the proposals and nominate their preferred option using the survey forms provided at the displays. The results of the survey will assist Council in choosing the design that will go into the Lion Park.

The Lion’s Park Playground Upgrade project is an initiative of the Queensland Government.
