ELEGANCE REBORN AS COOKTOWN SHIRE HALL REOPENS ITS DOORS

It was a celebration of history, heritage, colour, dance and a good old-fashioned afternoon tea as the Cooktown community came together to celebrate the reopening of the much-loved, Cooktown Shire Hall on Saturday 21 May.

“The passion and support from the community for this project has been inspiring,” said Cook Shire Mayor Peter Scott.

“The Hall has brought back some of the old elegance of Cooktown. It really is wonderful to be able to provide this fantastic venue to the community again,” added Mayor Scott.

The historic event attracted more than 200 visitors and featured live music from Captain Tap & The Watery Hose; traditional afternoon tea treats from QCWA Cooktown; a history lesson from the Cooktown History Centre and toe-tapping dance performances by the Rossville Social Club, Dancing Divas and the Old Time Dance Group.
