Background
I have lived in and around Cooktown all my life and the majority of my family still resides in the north. Barney and I were married in 1966 and have two children Sandra and Eric. I was employed at the local school for 20 years firstly as a teacher aide and then as an administrative assistant. We have a local business Cooktown Earthmoving & Quarrying Pty Ltd / Cooktown Concrete which Eric and Sue are also involved with.
Over the years I was involved in the inauguration of the kindergarten then P & C activities. I have also been a member of the local catchment group for the last 10 years. Another group I’ve been active in is the Golf Club and still regularly enjoy a game.
There have been some substantial changes in Cooktown over the years and with the sealing of the road from Cairns it will continue to grow. I would like to see Cooktown a place where both development and its uniqueness can be catered for. As well as an improvement of the road network throughout the shire so that all people from the cape have access and opportunities that others take for granted.
