Charlotte Street Revitalisation Project

A draft Revitalisation Plan has been finalised for Charlotte Street, Cooktown. The Plan provides a vision for Charlotte Street based on community feedback received in late 2016.

Key features of the plan include:

  • New and upgraded footpaths to provide a continuous and safe passage from Boundary Street through to the new Esplanade parklands;
  • Retaining the existing and historical street alignment, width and feel;
  • Improving safety and readability of Charlotte Street by sealing shoulders and having clear line marking; 
  • Retaining existing car parking capacity;
  • Increasing the safety and visibility at intersections by pulling them forward;
  • Making the wharf area functional for business and recreation;
  • Provide a new shared path, bike and pedestrians along Adelaide Street with connections to Charlotte Street; and
  • Encourage a green entry to the town with new tree plantings along the verge from Boundary Street to Walker Street.  

The draft Revitalisation Plans are available to view below, with final plans to be formed in October.
