Australia Day Nominations 2008

Australia Day Nomination Form

Nominations are invited for the Cook Shire Australia Day 2008 Awards. These awards are an honour to receive and through your nomination shows that you appreciate the efforts put in by individuals or local community groups. Nominees must be Cook Shire residents (or closely affiliated to Cook Shire) who have contributed significantly to Cook Shire in any field over a number of years. Such contribution must demonstrate active concern for the rights, welfare and well being and / or advancement of others, and could have been given to individuals community groups or the community at large.

Cook Shire Council is calling for nominations in the following categories:-

Australia Day Citizen of the Year Award: This maybe someone who has put in their time and effort into making a difference to the Cook Shire, to an event or charity, or to other people/persons. To be eligible, the person must be 27 years or older on 26th January 2008. (past winners include: Gail Clark, Peter Whipper, Neville Jackson, Jo Wynter, Merle & Bob O’Doherty)

Australia Day Young Citizen of the Year Award: Once again this young person may have made a difference to the community, helped with an event or charity or to other people/person. To be eligible, the person must not be more than 26 years of age on 26th January 2008. (past winners include: Kate Turner, Tegan Crawford, Courtney Bird, Tegan Prince & Lani Rock)

Australia Day Community Event of the Year: This should be awarded to the person or group who has staged the most outstanding community event during the year. Open to all people or community groups that has made a difference or enjoyed by those attending (past winners include: Cruising to Cooktown, ABC Country Hour, Laura & District Rodeo, Cooktown Re-enactment Committee & The Big Reef Premier)

 • Australia Day Cultural Award: This could be a person, event or program that has brought awareness between Cultures and/or the arts. (past winners include: John & Bev Shay, Cooktown Corroboree, Cooktown Historical Society, Wallaby Creek Folk Festival & Cooktown Ballet Group)

Australia Day Sports Award: Open to all ages, this person would have made a personal effort for achievement in any sport, whether they represented the region on a State or National basis, or have made a difference to local sporting groups and/or participants. (past winners include: Fiona Williams, Shianne Sellers, Matt Bowen, Jacko & Glen Shepherd)

• Australia Day Junior Sports Award: Open any sports participant under the age of 18 years on any level. (past winners include: Oliver Hanran, Luke Bird, Ryan Scott, Daniel Dai)

Australia Day Volunteer of the Year: Do you know someone who has put their own time into a community service, charity or an event in a voluntary position. Then nominate them for Volunteer of the year. (past winners include: Marlene Downing, Errol Thomas, Fiona Schuller, Noel Hughes)

Service to Cook Shire Award: This is community organisation or person that has made a significant contribution to the Cook Shire, whether it be in awareness, service to the Shire or just making a difference to our Shire and region. (Past winners include: Loretta Sullivan, Aileen Cross)

Community Service Club Award: This is a community organisation who has demonstrated their continual community involvement and assistance. (past winner: Lakeland SES)
