Brief Biography

Cr Price was born in Mt Isa, and raised on cattle properties in the Dajarra area. Childhood was about work dressed up as fun: mustering, yard work and gardening. Like many bush kids, reading was a passion. Following high school, she attended Queensland Agricultural College, becoming one of a tiny handful of women to work in the bee-keeping industry. After a dozen years, and the onset of back problems, Kaz completed a degree in Agricultural Science, majoring in beef cattle production and systems, before undertaking a Graduate Diploma and Masters in Education, while working with Queensland Agricultural Colleges.

Kaz has spent time spent in the NT and WA, working in regional economic development initiatives from timber production in the Douglas Daly, to aquaculture in the Murchison, walk-in-walk-out tourism in the Gascoyne, to mineral prospectively in the goldfields, and broad acre vegetable production on pastoral leases in the Kimberley. This diversification work helped develop broad skills in identifying and overcoming legislative and economic development blockers.

Kaz moved to Cooktown with her two daughters Jess and Bonnie in 2003. The family loved the natural landscapes of Cape York and especially the region around Cooktown itself. Kaz loves anything outdoors, camping, gardening, photography, reading, writing and Jimmy Buffett – not necessarily in that order.

Since January 2013, Kaz has managed the Cooktown District Community Centre (CDCC), focusing on organisational sustainability and service delivery excellence.
