POOL CLOSURE
The Cooktown Community Pool will be closed for Public Holidays on the 14th, 15th, 17th, 25th April, and the 1st May. 

LIBRARY INFORMATION
Cooktown Library will be closed for the duration of the Easter Weekend.
Cooktown Library is calling for donations of books to be sent to Johnstone Shire Libraries as the majority of their books were damaged or destroyed by Cyclone Larry. All books can be dropped off at the Cooktown Library.

MAIL DELIVERY SERVICE SURVEY
Australia Post has been hand delivering ballot papers in regards to a having mail delivery service in Cooktown. Council wishes to remind that any ballots not returned to Australia Post will be counted as a no vote – as per Australia Post policy

ROADS UPDATE
Due to recent heavy rain a number of Council roads have experienced significant damage.  Council is endeavouring to repair safety issues related to this damage, with a majority of repairs and maintenance to be carried out once conditions permit.  Council encourages road users to travel safely and drive to prevailing conditions.
Shiptons Flat Road, McIvor Road, Battlecamp Road, Lakefield Road, Esk Valley Road, and Cameron Creek Road have been identified as roads requiring work when possible.  The Bloomfield Road has also suffered considerable damage with numerous bog holes.  There is currently a 5T load limit on the road, which will remain in force until the road has an opportunity to dry out.
The Lakefield Road is closed.
A number of drainage issues have been identified around Cooktown and are in the process of being addressed.

 CYCLONE APPEAL - SUPPORT NEEDED
If you would like to contribute to the Cyclone Larry recovery efforts, The Big Shed is acting as collection point. Any contribution will be greatly appreciated. Homegoods, whitegoods, kitchen goods, furnishings, non-perishable foodstuffs, lumber, fittings, iron, and building materials are all required. Please package any contributions into boxes and drop off at The Big Shed for transport to cyclone affected areas. The Big Shed truck will transport any contributions made. Please contact Grant or Rod at the Big Shed on 4069 5842 with any enquiries.  

VACANT POSITIONS
Applications are invited in regards to a vacancy for a qualified Carpenter within Council’s Planning and Environment Services Division. Applicants must obtain an information kit and address the specific selection criteria. Written applications should be addressed the Chief Executive Officer and marked Confidential Job Application HRMCSC41/0506.  Applications close 4.30pm Friday 21 April 2006.  Information kits are available from by contacting Melissa Mulhall on 4069 5444 or via email at mail@cook.qld.gov.au. NETBALL AND AQUA AEROBICS
To attend Aqua Aerobics sessions, please call the pool on 4069 6928 in advance to book. Please leave a message if phone is not answered. At least 5 people are required per session for it to go ahead. Please arrive at each session 10 minutes beforehand. Sessions take place Monday - 7am to 8am, Wednesday - 5.30pm to 6.30pm, Thursday - 7am to 8am and Saturday - 11am to 12 noon.
No official netball games over the Easter holidays. People who turn up may be able to have scrap matches. Check the sports section of the Local News for further information.

AYTON PUBLIC MEETING
WHEN:   Wednesday 19 April 2006

Time:  1.00pm - 2.00pm 
Where:  The Shed, Ayton (opposite IGA Express)
Why: Seeking community response to proposed development on the block.

TIDY TOWNS SURVEY
Thank you to everyone who completed the Tidy Towns Survey and returned it to Council, your participation is appreciated.

OVERGROWN ALLOTMENTS
Thank you to everyone who responded to the notices in relation to overgrown allotments, and those who contacted Council in regards to their property.

ABANDONED VEHICLE
To the owner of the following vehicle:
                   -Silver Ford Falcon Station Wagon
                               - John Street
Notice is hereby given that under Section 100 of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management Act 1995) the above mentioned vehicle, which is suspected by the Cook Shire Council of being abandoned, has been removed from John Street and detained at its Charlotte Street Depot.
If the vehicle is not claimed and released within one (1) month from the date of this notice the Council proposes to dispose of the said vehicle in accordance with the provisions of Section 44 of the said Act.
