REMINDER: CENTRELINK CYCLONE ASSISTANCE FUNDING
Council would like to remind all Cape Businesses that there is Funding assistance available for those affected by Cyclones Monica and Larry. For those eligible, there is an initial $10,000 available, followed by another $15,000. All Cape businesses are encouraged to apply. INAUGURAL YOUTH FORUM
Cooktown Community and the Cooktown P-12 P&C Association extend an invitation to all those involved with youth in Cooktown and Environs to attend a Community Forum. The aim of the Forum is to develop a future plan for the betterment of all Youth. All persons associated with Youth are invited to participate. 7.30pm at the Lions Hall, 23 August. PASSENGER TRANSPORT SERVICES SURVEY
Queensland Transport would like to know what you think about long distance passenger transport services in the Cape including bus and air services. You can complete the survey online at www.getinvolved.qld.qov.au until Sunday 27 August, or freecall 1800 174 562 until Friday 25 August. Copies of the survey are also available from the Cook Shire Council Office and the Cooktown Library.

VARIETY CLUB BASH 22 & 23 AUGUST
Council would like to take this opportunity to thank the Variety Club and the Variety Club bashers for coming to Cooktown for this years Reef to Races.
This is a wonderful event and fund raises thousands of dollars for disabled children throughout Australia.
Council would also like to thank the Community Groups that volunteered their time and equipment to help cater for the 500 people involved with the Variety Bash for the Tuesday night dinner and the Wednesday morning breakfast, this was a great community effort. Congratulations and thank you must go to Sharon Sutter who co-ordinated the event for Cooktown, well done.
Council was very pleased to be part of this wonderful event and thanks everyone that was involved.

PUBLIC NOTICE - COOKTOWN WATER SUPPLY RESTRICTIONS
Residents of Cooktown and surrounding areas who are provided with a reticulated water supply are advised that due to a planned system upgrade at the Annan Water Treatment Plant it is necessary to impose water restrictions.
Commencing Wednesday 16 August, 2006 the use of sprinklers is prohibited at all times. The use of hand held hoses is only permitted between 6pm and 7am.
Due to the potentially serious water shortage Council will take action if the above restrictions are not complied with.
The above restrictions are necessary until work is completed on 31 August 2006.
The co-operation of residents in complying with the above restrictions is requested.

PUBLIC NOTICE - PEST MANAGEMENT PLAN
A new Draft Pest Management Plan has been developed for Cook Shire to cover the period 2006-2010 and has been released for public comment.
The Draft Plan can be viewed or downloaded from www.cooktowns.com or www.cyppests.com
Hard copies are available for viewing at Council’s Main Office in Charlotte Street.
If you wish to have a hard copy or CD of the Draft Pest Management Plan mailed to you, please contact the Cape York Weeds and Feral Animal Program on (07) 40695020.

PUBLIC NOTICE - NOTIFICATION OF PEST SURVEY PROGRAM
Notice is hereby given under Section 242 of the Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Act 2002 (“the Act”), that the Cook Shire Council will be conducting a pest survey program to monitor compliance with the requirements of the Act in relation to declared pests.
The purpose and scope of the program is:

To monitor compliance with the Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Act 2002 in relation to declared pests.
-
To aid in monitoring/mapping the distribution and spread of declared pests.
-
To assist in the enhancement of community awareness in relation to declared pests.
-
To be conducted in the whole of the Local Government Area (Cook Shire).
The program will include both aerial and on-ground surveys.
The pest survey program will commence on the 8th September 2006, and continue for a period of 12 months, concluding on 7th September 2007.
A copy of the pest survey program is available for inspection at the Cook Shire Council office at Charlotte Street, Cooktown.
A copy may be obtained from the Cook Shire office during the period of the program.
