DRAFT PLANNING SCHEME - DISPLAY AT IGA IN COOKTOWN
Cook Shire Council's Planning and Environment Administration Officer, Lisa Miller will be hosting a display of the Draft Planning Scheme, including large colour Cooktown zoning maps, for people to review. The display will be set-up from 11.00am to 3.00pm at the supermarket complex in Helen Street on Monday 3 July, Thursday 6 July and Friday 7 July. If you have any questions regarding the Draft Planning Scheme, please visit the display at these times.
Additionally we remind residents of the public meeting to be held at the Cooktown Shire Hall on Thursday, 8 June at 5.30pm.

WORKPLACE RELATIONS - HOW IT AFFECTS FARMERS.
Copies of the free booklet and CD outlining available assistance and options for farmers are now available from Council’s front desk and from Shire Libraries.
QUEENSLAND WEEK
Queensland Week is celebrated from 4-11 June across the State to showcase our people, places and achievements. Each year, a range of diverse activities are held that involve the young and the old, families, business and a range of communities throughout Queensland.
Cook Shire is again participating in this celebration with assisting with the Cooktown Discovery Festival and holding the Gardening Competition.
COOKTOWN GARDEN COMPETITION
The closing date for nominations has been extended until June 18. Nomination forms are available from the Cooktown Library or Council’s front desk. Nomination forms must be returned to the Cooktown Library by June 18.
Entry categories are as follows: Business Property, Industrial Sites, Small Residential Property, Large Residential Property and Senior Citizens.

COOKTOWN COMMUNITY POOL
Will be closed 10, 11, 12 June due to the Discovery Weekend events.
Re-opens 13 June. Usual Opening Times: 6am to 7.30am Monday to Thursday, 1pm to 6pm Monday to Friday, and 1pm to 6pm Saturday and Sunday.
Aqua Aerobics is on Wednesday, 5.15pm and Saturday 11am – Minimum 5 per session for sessions to go ahead, please call the pool on (07) 4069 6928 in advance to book.
NETBALL
Ladies Netball will continue 6pm Thursday until new competitions start.
Mixed netball games every Wednesday night, all welcome. Contact Robert Cooper on (07) 4069 5444.

COOK SHIRE LIBRARY INFORMATION
Cooktown Library will not be open this Saturday, 10th June, due to the Discovery Weekend events.
The Laura and Bloomfield libraries will remain open at usual opening times.
PROHIBITION OF SALE - GARDEN MULCH
No further sales of garden mulch from Cooktown Landfill will be made until advised by Council’s Manager Planning and Environment. Contact Council’s Planning and Environment Division on (07) 4069 5444 for further information.
NATURE’S POWERHOUSE - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Volunteers are required at Nature’s Powerhouse. If you would like to volunteer at the Powerhouse, or would like more information, please contact Jo Wynter on (07) 4069 6004
CAMPING REMINDER
Local Law No. 22 states that a person must not camp, except in a caravan park, within the following areas: (a) 15 km from a township; or (b) 15 km from a caravan park. People wishing to camp within this area must obtain a permit and landowners consent.
