Welcome to the second edition of the Cook Shire Community Noticeboard. This Noticeboard will be published every fortnight and placed on public noticeboards around the Shire and placed here on www.cooktowns.com.
WEBBER ESPLANADE DEVELOPMENT
Council invites members of the public, community organisations and interested parties to be involved in Council’s Webber Esplanade Project, by attending the Community Consultation.
When: 5.30pm Wednesday March 8
Where: Shire Hall, Cooktown
This public meeting will allow community groups, organisation and individuals to attain further information on the development and offer these groups the opportunity to provide feedback on the development.
Information packs and comment forms are available from Council’s Administration and Planning Office and the Cooktown Library.
The final date for submissions is Friday 24 March 2006.
NETBALL TRY IT DAY & BBQ
When: 9am Sunday 5 March .
Where: Tennis/Netball Courts, Garden Street (Behind the Kindergarten).
Netball ball handling skills & drills, Coaching and Umpiring lessons.
An Umpire & Coaching course will be conducted after lunch for those interested.
Sign on for teams and an appropriate night for competition will be discussed on the day.
Your feedback would be much appreciated.
People interested in Netball umpiring or rules please contact prior to the day.

“LEARN TO SWIM” INSTRUCTOR
When: 8am – 5pm Saturday and Sunday 11 –12 March
Where: Cooktown Community Swimming Pool and Cooktown District Community Centre.
Accredited AusSwim instructor Bernadette Wilson is in Cooktown to conduct the AusSwim Swimming Teacher and Water Safety Course.
The cost for this training is $190. (Usually $290 + travel to Cairns).

BUBS WATER AWARENESS LESSON
When: Saturday March 11 from 12.45 to 1.15pm.
Where: Cooktown Community Swimming Pool
Bernadette from AusSwim will be conducting a Water Awareness Lesson for young babies and toddlers. Cost for this lesson is $8.50.

A free community event to celebrate the opening of the Mulligan Highway.

SEWERAGE SCHEME
Numerous trenches along the new sewerage line have experienced significant subsidence with the recent rain. Whilst this was expected, measures to remedy the situation have been delayed until the soil dries out.
Please be advised that driving or parking on the footpath where the sewerage line has been installed should be avoided. Care should also be taken when walking on the subject footpaths.
ROAD WORKS UPDATE
Council has been repairing drainage problems on numerous roads around the Shire including Pormpurraw Road, Poison Creek Road, and Solander Road.
Maintenance work continues on Cameron Creek Road, Quarantine Bay Road, and Cooktown Streets.
A slip has been removed at Rossville, and debris and rubbish removed from a number of Council bridges near Cooktown.
Removal or pruning of trees at Lakeland Downs continues.
DIRTY, WEEDY, OVERGROWN YARDS
Tidy Towns is coming and Council has noticed a lot of residential allotments hiding under a cover of weeds and guinea grass. If your allotment fits this description, please take action to clean it up. Council has commenced inspections of overgrown allotments and will conduct follow-up inspections in a few weeks.
