15th MARCH 2006

Welcome to the third edition of the Cook Shire Community Noticeboard. This Noticeboard will be published every fortnight and placed on public noticeboards around the Shire and placed here on www.cooktowns.com.

CRUISING TO COOKTOWN EVENT - 8 APRIL
A FREE community event to celebrate the completion of the road and the official name change to the “Mulligan Highway”.
Featuring John Williamson in concert.
The event will include:
- Vehicle Convoy from Lakeland Hotel to Cooktown starting at 2pm
- Cooktown Hash House Harriers relay from Lakeland to Cooktown – raising funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service
- Dog in a Ute line up Charlotte Street 3.30pm
- Free Community concert in Endeavour Park starting at 4pm with local bands
- Official Opening for the Cook Shire at 8pm
- John Williamson in concert from 8.30pm

AQUA AEROBICS AND NETBALL START THIS WEEK!
Netball teams have been organised – please check noticeboards and the sports section in the Local News for more details. For more information, or to nominate for these activities, please contact Sally Saw on 4069 5444.
Aqua Aerobics session times are advertised around town – keep an eye out! To participate you must register – call the pool on 4069 6928

POOL CLOSURE
The Cooktown Community Pool will be closed for Public Holidays on the 14th, 15th, 17th, 25th April, and the 1st May.

 TIDY TOWNS SURVEY
Council is conducting a survey before Tidy Towns – look out for a copy in your letterbox! The survey is also downloadable from www.cooktowns.com. Please complete and return to Council by Friday April 7.

CAPE YORK PENINSULA LAND CARE PROGRAM

Cape York Peninsula Landcare Officer Part Time closes this Friday 17/3/2006
We are seeking enthusiastic people who have strong skills in sustainable land management and are able to communicate and develop good working relationships across the breadth of land managers of the Peninsula.
The position will be on contract to the Cook Shire Council and travel throughout the Peninsula is an important part of the role as is the ability to understand and apply sustainable land management processes.
Remuneration will commensurate with experience and qualifications. The positions are funded and for a fixed term of 12 months. Possibility of an extension may exist with the securing of further funding.

SEWERAGE SCHEME
Numerous trenches along the new sewerage line have experienced significant subsidence with the recent rain. Whilst this was expected, measures to remedy the situation have been delayed until the soil dries out.
Please be advised that driving or parking on the footpath where the sewerage line has been installed should be avoided. Care should also be taken when walking on the subject footpaths.

Tender No. C 463 Construction of ramp at the Cooktown Airport Terminal Building
Quotes are required for the documentation of working drawings and the construction of an access ramp.
The ramp consists of a simple timber framed structure and handrails complying with the Australian Standard AS1428.1 Design for access and Mobility Part 1 General requirements for access – New building work, and will attach to the existing front verandah.

Tender No. C462 Extensions to Rossville Community Hall
Quotes are required for the documentation of working drawings and the construction of the addition.
The addition consists of simple timber framed walling clad on one side only (externally) with custom orb colorbond sheeting enclosing the undercroft to the existing community building and measures approximately 18 by 10 metres and is Stage 1 of a continuing future project.
