Welcome to the fourth edition of the Cook Shire Community Noticeboard. This Noticeboard will be published every fortnight and placed on public noticeboards around the Shire and placed here on www.cooktowns.com.


CRUISING TO COOKTOWN - FREE COMMUNITY EVENT - 8 APRIL
A FREE community event to celebrate the completion of the road and the official name change to the “Mulligan Highway”.
Featuring John Williamson in concert.
The event will include:
- Vehicle Convoy from Lakeland Hotel to Cooktown starting at 2pm
- Cooktown Hash House Harriers relay from Lakeland to Cooktown
           – raising funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service
- Dog in a Ute line up Charlotte Street 3.30pm
- Free Community concert in Endeavour Park starting at 4pm with local bands
- Official Opening for the Cook Shire at 8pm
- John Williamson in concert from 8.30pm
Commemorative items are now available for sale from Council’s front counter. Caps (assorted colours, $12), Bucket Hats (assorted colours, $15) and bumper stickers ($1.50)

WHAT’S ON
7 April - Pest Management Public Forum, commencing 8.30am at the Council Chambers.
8 April - Cruising to Cooktown.
1-9 April National Youth Week.
19 April - Ayton Public Meeting.

POOL CLOSURE
The Cooktown Community Pool will be closed for Public Holidays on the 14th, 15th, 17th, 25th April, and the 1st May.

NETBALL AND AQUA AEROBICS
To attend Aqua Aerobics sessions, please call the pool on 4069 6928 in advance to book. At least 5 people are required per session for it to go ahead. Please arrive at each session 10 minutes beforehand. Sessions take place Monday - 7am to 8am, Wednesday - 5.30pm to 6.30pm, Thursday - 7am to 8am and Saturday - 11am to 12 noon.
Due to rain, Netball was cancelled on the 23rd. There will be games this week, weather permitting. Contact your team captain if you’re unable to attend. Check the sports section of the Local News or call Sally on 4069 6075 for more information.

ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE
Council would like to advise that Adelaide Street, from between the Cooktown Bowls Club to Bicentennial Park will be closed from 7th April, 2006 to 9th April, 2006, due the Cruising to Cooktown celebration and the concerts in the park.

ROADS UPDATE
Due to recent heavy rain a number of Council roads have experienced significant damage. Damaged sections on the Bloomfield Road, Shiptons Flat Road, and Poison Creek Road are in the process of being fixed. Further damage on the Battlecamp Road and McIvor River Road will be repaired. A number of slips on the Bloomfield Road will be removed.
Council has sent a crew to Eacham Shire to assist with the clean up resulting from Cyclone Larry.

CYCLONE APPEAL - SUPPORT NEEDED
If you would like to contribute to the Cyclone Larry recovery efforts, The Big Shed is acting as collection point. Any contribution will be greatly appreciated. Homegoods, whitegoods, kitchen goods, furnishings, non-perishable foodstuffs, lumber, fittings, iron, and building materials are all required. Please package any contributions into boxes and drop off at The Big Shed for transport to cyclone affected areas. The Big Shed truck will transport any contributions made. Please contact Grant or Rod at the Big Shed on 4069 5842 with any enquiries.

LIBRARY INFORMATION
- Cooktown Library will be closed for the duration of the Easter Weekend.
- Lakeland Library time changes:
Closed Wednesday 29th March 2006 and Wednesday 5th April 2006. Open Thursday 6th April 2006 from 3pm to 7pm.

VACANT POSITIONS
Applications are invited in regards to a vacancy for a qualified Carpenter within Council’s Planning and Environment Services Division. CAPE YORK PENINSULA LAND CARE PROGRAM
Cook Shire Council is calling for new nominations for the Cape York Peninsula Landcare Program Advisory Committee. To reflect broad stakeholder involvement with Landcare, Cook Shire Council is especially looking for nominations from Peninsula Indigenous natural resource management organisations, members of NRM organisations, and Peninsula residents. Please contact the CYP Landcare Facilitator, Wendy Seabrook on 4069 5406 for more information.

ADOPTION OF GENERAL COMPLAINTS PROCESS
Notice is hereby given that the Council, at its meeting held on 21 March 2006 adopted a General Complaint Process. The Complaint Process has been adopted pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 6 Part 5 Section 501B of the Local Government Act 1993 for the purpose of resolving complaints by affected persons about administrative action of the council or an alleged minor breach by a Councillor of the Council's Code of Conduct for Councillors. The General Complaints Process may be viewed at the Council Office, 121 Charlotte Street, Cooktown, at all Council libraries and on Council's website www.cook.qld.gov.au

ABANDONED VEHICLE
To the owner of the following vehicle:
· Silver Ford Falcon Station Wagon
                    - John Street
Notice is hereby given that under Section 100 of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management Act 1995) the above mentioned vehicle, which is suspected by the Cook Shire Council of being abandoned, has been removed from John Street and detained at its Charlotte Street Depot.
If the vehicle is not claimed and released within one (1) month from the date of this notice the Council proposes to dispose of the said vehicle in accordance with the provisions of Section 44 of the said Act.
