COOKTOWN DISCOVERY FESTIVAL 10 & 11 JUNE
Organising is underway for this years Cooktown Discovery Festival. Jacqui Sykes has been appointed Project Manager by the Discovery committee and meetings have been running regularly. Anyone interested in holding an event, attending the meetings or helping out in some way please contact Jacqui on (07) 4069 5442 for details.
YOUNG INDIGENOUS LEADERS FORUM - APPLICATIONS OPEN
This year's Young Indigenous Leaders Forum applications are now open for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders between the ages of 18-25. The dates for the forum this year are 24th-27th July 2006. Applications close 7th June 2006. Please forward the attached flyer and application form to anyone who may be interested in applying. If any one has any questions, my contact details are below.
The Young Indigenous Leaders Forum is part of the Queensland Government’s Reconciliation Action Plan, launched by the Premier in 2001. It aims to recognise and encourage successful reconciliation initiatives.
In 2006 the Reconciliation Action Plan will consist of the Young Indigenous Leaders Forum, a Reconciliation Business Forum and a Reconciliation Awards for Business ceremony.
You are eligible to apply if you are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, aged 18 to 25 years, a permanent resident of Queensland and have an interest in discussing issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

COOKTOWN GARDEN COMPETITION
Entry categories are as follows: Business Property, Industrial Sites, Small Residential Property, Large Residential Property and Senior Citizens.
Nomination forms are available from the Cooktown Library or Council’s front desk. Nomination forms must be returned to the Cooktown Library by June 1.
Judging will take place during Queensland Week June 4th to 11th and winners announced during the Cooktown Discovery Festival Weekend.
No complaints about lack of water this year, please.

TIDY TOWNS
Please ensure that your yards and allotments are clean, weed-free and mowed. The Judges will be in Cooktown next Wednesday, May 24. Judges will be in Lakeland and Laura on May 19, Coen on May 23 and in Rossville and Ayton on May 25
CLEAN UP COOK SHIRE - 28 MAY
Bring out your local pride and don a pair of gloves and help clean up our great Shire.
This special day is set to help make our great region sparkle. Every little bit of litter is a blemish and we as a community need to band together and clean up our great towns.
WHEN: 10 am until noon

The web page is now up and running. By logging onto www.cooktowns.com you can read up do date information about them current state of Cape York roads, read frequently asked questions or fill out a form to inform us of a problem road, or to ask further questions.

COOK SHIRE LIBRARY INFORMATION
Cooktown Library
Cooktown Library is open from 10am - 1:15pm, 2pm - 5pm Monday to Friday, and 9am - 12.30pm Saturday. We would like to offer a reminder that children under 10 must be accompanied in the library.
Laura Library is now open Saturday mornings from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

Tenders are hereby invited and will close with the undersigned at 2.00pm on Monday 29th April 2006 for the transport only of aviation fuel as follows:-
A. To Cooktown Aerodrome for the transport of JET A1 and AVGAS fuels (and)
B. To Coen Aerodrome for the transport of JET A1 and AVGAS fuels.
This tender is for the transport of fuel only. Council will be responsible for the purchase of the fuel. The lowest or any tender may not necessarily be accepted.
