Local Girl Wins Regional Colouring Competition Award
Dannielle Matthews took out the Regional award for North West Peninsula in the recent Local Government Week State Colouring Competition for grades 4 to 7. The judges of the State- wide competition said all entries were of an extremely high level, making the judge’s choice extremely difficult. Cook Shire Council held the colouring competition for School children from Grades 1 to 7.
Cook Shire Mayor, Bob Sullivan judged the local competition which had a great number of entries. "It was hard to judge the winners, the children did a great job colouring in the Main Roads competition. Danielle's was such a detailed entry, with Jeneen Clark winning the local Grade 1 to 3 category". Each of these entries was sent to Brisbane to compete in the State competition, with Danielle's taking out one of the regional awards.
Local Government Week (LGWeek) is an annual event which allows councils throughout Queensland to promote their important role within their own communities.
The week provides opportunities for the public to learn more about Local Government and become involved in their own council. It also enables councils to educate the community about the importance of services that Local Government provides.
Cook Shire Council had several students from the Cooktown State School attend it's May Council meeting, to give them an insight to what goes on at such meetings and what they could expect in the corporate world. Council will also be holding a free sausage sizzle Friday 1st June starting at 10am. There will be information on Council services and give aways for the kids.
