Local Disaster Management Group

The Cook Shire Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) meets regularly to develop effective disaster management planning and capability.

The LDMG operate under the Cook Shire Local Disaster Management Plan which outlines the procedures and resources to effectively manage a disaster situation.

The LDMG actively promotes disaster preparedness and conducts annual community engagement and information distribution to residents and visitors of Cook Shire.

The Cook Shire Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) is required to complete an annual Report at the end of each financial year and provide the completed report to both the Cairns District Disaster Management Group and the Cook Shire Council. The annual report shall be in accordance with the requirements of the Disaster Management Act 2003 and is to be developed as per the Local Disaster Management Group Guidelines. Many organisations form the membership of the Cook Shire LDMG and all are committed to working together for the safety and benefit of the community.  Other local agencies and organisations are invited to attend meetings and briefings at the discretion of the Chair and the Local Disaster Coordinator.
