Bloomfield Falls
Heading south on the coast road from Cooktown. Once you reach the Wujal Wujal Aborginal community, the Bloomfield River is 0.6 km south of the community. Just before the river crossing there is a sign post to the falls by turing off the main road to the right. At the end of the dirt road a short walking track leads to the beautiful Bloomfield Falls. This river is home to the estuarine crocodile and swimming is not recommended.
Trevethan Falls
These falls are absolutely spectacular, but a 4WD is required to get to them as the road can get quite rough toward the end. There is a turn off marked by a tin sign "FALLS" on the right hand side about half way down Mt. Amos Road. Once at the falls, take in the surroundings, climb the rocks to get a better view of the amazing lagoon and cascading waterfalls. These falls are definitely worth the drive! Please just make sure to clean up when you leave!
Parrot Falls
Endeavour Falls
North of Cooktown, approximately 32km from the P.O. (20 minute drive) along Endeavour Valley Road (McIvor Road) is Endeavour Falls Tourist Park. Permission to access the falls is given at the roadhouse, which offers fuel, groceries, and accommodation. This is a picturesque setting on the north arm of the Endeavour River, surrounded by rainforest. The falls do not always flow in the dry season, but the setting is still worth the visit. Enjoy a swim in the crocodile free swimming hole at the base of the falls or bush walk along the river to see the tree ferns, elk horns, and orchids.
Isabella Falls
About a 15 minute drive from Endeavour Falls Tourist Park, Isabella Falls is on the way to Laura from Cooktown, along Battle Camp Road. Just follow the sign to Laura, once you are past the Park.
Home Rule Falls
4.5 km south from the Shiptons Flat/Bloomfield Road intersection along the coast road is Rossville. A road leading off to the left heads to Home Rule Rainforest Lodge. It is 3 km to the lodge through some wonderful rainforest, although the road is a little rough. If you take it easy, conventional cars can make it with ease. The spectacular Home Rule falls are reached along a 2.5 km walking trail. Ask at the lodge for access and directions to the falls. The lodge also offers budget accomodation and meals.
