Flood damaged waste disposal

We wish to inform all residents that flood damage waste will continue to be accepted at the Waste Transfer Stations in Ayton and Cooktown until Sunday, 25 February 2024.

We wish to inform all residents that flood damage waste will continue to be accepted (during normal operating hours) at the Waste Transfer Stations in Ayton and Cooktown until Sunday, 25 February 2024.

The additional flood-relief skip bins that have been provided at strategic locations within these communities are also scheduled for permanent removal from Monday, 26 February 2024.

This extension is aimed at facilitating the safe and efficient disposal of flood-damaged materials and ensuring the restoration process proceeds smoothly. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to dispose of any flood-related waste responsibly.

Please note the following guidelines for flood damage waste disposal:

  • Only genuine flood-damaged materials will be accepted.
  • Hazardous materials, such as chemicals, paints, oils, and electronic waste, must be separated and disposed of according to specific guidelines provided at the Waste Transfer Stations.
  • Residents are requested to sort their waste accordingly before arriving at the Transfer Stations to expedite the disposal process.
  • We urge all residents to cooperate in adhering to these guidelines to facilitate a smooth and efficient waste disposal process.
From Monday, 26 February 2024 Council’s fees and charges for waste disposal will apply.
