PUBLIC NOTICE | BRIDGE REPAIR WORKS, LAURA RIVER - SHELLY'S CROSSING

Please be advised of bridge works at the Laura River Bridge (Shelly's Crossing) from Monday 29 May 2023

We have been advised that the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will commence the second stage of bridge deck replacement works on Laura River bridge (Shelley's crossing) on Peninsula Developmental Road (Laura – Coen) from Monday 29 May 2023, weather and construction conditions permitting.

This project will replace the bridge ply deck and reinstate the asphalt wearing surface that was damaged during flooding. Assistance will be provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

For the safety of workers and road users, intermittent full bridge closures will be carried out from Monday 29 May 2023 for about a two-week period, including weekends, weather and construction conditions permitting. To facilitate through traffic, crews will allow 30-minute openings throughout each day. The bridge will be closed at the following times during the works:

Closed            7.00am-8.30am

Open               8.30am-9.00am

Closed            9.00am-12.30pm

Open               12.30pm-1.00pm

Closed            1.00pm-5.00pm

Open               5.00pm onwards

There will not be an alternate route available during the bridge closure times. TMR has arrangements in place to provide emergency access during the bridge closures if required. The bridge will be open at night.

For the safety of road users and maintenance crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place including temporary speed limit reductions. Road users should expect delays and plan their journey accordingly.

Variable Message Signs will be in place prior to the closures to allow motorists ample opportunity to plan their travel. Changes in dates due to poor weather will be posted on the VMS.

The project is expected to be completed in late June 2023, weather and construction conditions permitting.

To get traffic and travel information or report an incident, hazard, pothole, signal fault, or seek assistance if you've been involved in a minor traffic incident or breakdown on a major Queensland road, please call TMR on 13 19 40.
