CHRISTMAS IN COOK SHIRE
From Cooktown to Coen, Santa flew across the Shire to make special appearances at two wonderfully festive, community Christmas events.
14 December 2021 - 11:34AM
Cooktown Sunset with Santa
The Cooktown community returned to William Daku Waterpark to enjoy an evening of festive celebrations and family fun on Saturday 4 December 2021.
As the sun set, a crowd of more than 320 community members soaked up the balmy evening with complimentary Christmas hampers and enjoyed free face painting, a beautiful bubble-blowing Christmas Tree Fairy, a magic show, and entertainment from Rachel Bradley. Prizes were also awarded for the best-dressed individual and the best-dressed family
The highlight of the event was of course the arrival of Santa in a QFES fire truck.
GET READY COEN
On Tuesday 7 December 2021, thanks to the Queensland Government champions, Get Ready Queensland, and several community groups and agencies, Santa made his way to Coen to share some Christmas cheer at another fun, free and festive community event.
The day started early with a community breakfast and Christmas bingo. Children loved the jumping castle and two slip-and-sides.
Prizes given out to double-vaxxed community members included generators, whipper snippers, home appliances and Get Ready pantry packs.
Several community members also received Community awards for best-kept gardens and home maintenance.
But the star of the show was again, of course, Santa who arrived on a ride-on-mower to hand out gifts to his legions of loyal Coen fans.
The evening wrapped up with a spectacular League tag game and a delicious, Kup Murri banquet.
Proudly sponsored by Hon Minister Cameron Dick, Commissioner Greg Leach, Coen Regional Aboriginal Corporation, Cook Shire Council, Apunipima, Cape York Partnerships, Get Ready Queensland, Coen Community Justice, Coen Kindergarten and QRL North Queensland.
