Councillor Robyn Holmes

I moved to Cooktown 14 years ago with my husband and two children. Both children completed primary school in Cooktown. My son is now at university in Canberra and my daughter attends boarding school in Townsville. The reason for my relocation was to support my husband and his work on two family-run cattle stations. I re-joined the Queensland Police Service at Cooktown as the Administration Officer and have worked at the Cooktown Police Station for 14 years.

I was first elected as a Councillor in 2016, and appointed as Deputy Mayor two years into my first term. I have served on Council's Audit and Risk Committee, Planning and Environment Standing Committee, Events Centre Steering Committee (chair) and other Council appointed committees including Cooktown Multi-Purpose Hospital and Health Services Cooktown Advisory Network, Cooktown Local Ambulance Committee and Bloomfield River District Residents Association. I am also a member of various community groups.

Re-elected in 2020 for my second term, I look forward to representing the community in all facets of local government.

I have a genuine passion for Cook Shire, my vision is to contribute towards the future of the shire ensuring it is progressive, sustainable and prosperous. I am driven by the desire to achieve excellence, recognising this can be achieved through our professional team of Councillors. I strive for improvement, effective communication and work towards transforming information into achievement through council’s decision-making processes.

I am an active member in community groups and provide hands-on assistance and support to various events. I have significant experience in State Government administration. I believe mindfulness and knowledge is the key to success.

I am passionate about representing Cook Shire, my achievements will come from direct involvement in the community and networking. Not having a singular focus, I am able to represent current and future interests of the shire. I pride myself on being an advocate for the community, supporting local business, industry and local community groups through good governance, community consultation and supporting our local community.
