Notice of Consultation: EPM 28568 – FMG Resources

Eastern Kuku Yalanji Native Title Determination (QUD 6008 of 1998)
Cape York United #1 Native Title Claim (QUD673/2014)

On 8 May 2024, the Department of Resources issued a notification under section 29(7) of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) (NTA) identifying that the proposed Exploration Permit for Minerals (EPM) 28568 is an act that attracts the expedited procedure.

This notice is to advise that Cape York Land Council (CYLC) will facilitate a meeting with:

  1. Those people who hold Native Title rights and interests within the Eastern Kuku Yalanji Native Title Determination (QUD 6008 of 1998) within the proposed grant of EPM 28568 (as shown on the map below in purple); and
  2. Those people who hold or may hold Native Title rights and interests within the Cape York United #1 Native Title Claim (QUD673/2014) within the proposed grant of EPM 28568 (as shown on the map below in red).

When: 10:00am – 12:00pm
Venue: Jabalbina Office, 121 Kotzur Street, Wujal Wujal 4895
Video conference facilities will also be available upon request.


Purpose of this meeting:

The purpose of this meeting is for CYLC to provide information and seek instructions in relation to:

  • The expedited procedure statement attached to the notification of EPM 28568;
  • Cultural heritage that may be affected within the EPM areas; and
  • Options available to progress this matter under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) and the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 (Qld).

Travel Attendance

CYLC has limited funding available for travel assistance to this meeting. CYLC may be able to provide some assistance, for example, fuel reimbursement. CYLC will prioritize assisting elders and family representatives and will consider how limited funding can be allocated to support a broad representation of the affected Native Title Holders.
