UNDERSTANDING THE 2019 WASTE DISPOSAL LEVYÂ
The Queensland Government introduced a waste levy as part of its resource recovery and waste strategy. This initiative aims to reduce landfill waste, boost recycling rates, and recover valuable resources. For detailed information, visit the Queensland Government’s website.
What Does the Waste Levy Mean for Residents?
Starting July 1, 2019, the waste levy will be implemented. It will not affect wheelie bin waste or self-hauled residential waste. Instead, it targets businesses. To minimize levy costs, businesses are encouraged to reduce waste and maximize recycling efforts. You can view the proposed levy zones on the Queensland Government’s website.
Exemptions and Discounts for the Waste Levy
Certain wastes, such as those resulting from declared natural disasters, may be exempt from the levy. Additionally, charities may apply for exemptions or discounts for waste they handle. For more details, please refer to the Queensland Government’s website.
