Cooktown 150th Celebrations

Commemoration events

We are commemorating 150 years since the township of Cooktown was founded this October, with a family friendly Bush Dance (paid tickets) at the Shire Hall on Friday 20 October, and a free community barbecue in William Daku Park on the day of Cooktown's founding Wednesday 25 October at midday.

The Cooktown School of Art Society is also joining in the activities, with the Cooktown Archies portrait exhibition opening on Friday 13 October at 6pm at Elizabeth Guzsely Gallery, and exhibition awards at 5.30pm on Friday 27 October. Both events are open to the public.

Bush Dance tickets

The Bush Dance is a family friendly event catered by the Cooktown Horsesports Association, with a bar run by the Cooktown CWA and live music by Whiskey Boat. Come along and enjoy a night out with the family, get your dancing boots on and help us celebrate.

Tickets are now on sale for the Bush Dance, at only $10 per person, with tots under age 3 free.
