THE UNDERSTORY FILM FESTIVAL TOURING PROGRAM

Thanks to Cairns Regional Council and Screen Queensland, the Understory Film Festival is coming to Cooktown, Rossville and Lakeland! 

The Understory Film Festival was developed to encourage local independent, student, emerging and professional filmmakers in Cairns and Far North Queensland region to enter a short film competition (under eight minutes). The objectives of the film festival was to showcase local talent and enhance audience development in short film culture. In 2022, the panel of judges selected 19 films as finalists from a record number of 92 entries. Genres include comedies, documentaries, music videos, animations, experimental and fiction. 

Over 90-mintues you'll enjoy screenings of 19 of the best short films from across our region for FREE. All the films are under eight minutes long and are rated PG. View the festival program here. 

No booking or registrations required, simply bring your own snacks and refreshments and sit back and enjoy the show. 

As well as the film viewings there is also the opportunity to participate in two pre-recorded masterclasses presented by industry professionals, Molly Reynolds and Rolf de Heer.
