Waste poses public health risk
Council held its annual pre-storm season pick-up of green waste and white goods in November last year. Unfortunately, household waste not included in the pre-storm season pick-up was placed kerbside by a minority of residents. There are still many nature-strips strewn with rubbish including household items, broken furniture and construction waste. Cook Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Tim Cronin advised that this poses a public health risk. “Public health and safety is paramount for Council and waste left in this manner can be dangerous during cyclones and also become breeding sites for mosquitoes and rodents,” he stated.
