Calling all Cape York and Torres Strait Island artists!
Cook Shire Council, in partnership with the Regional Arts Services Network, are pleased to announce that applications are now open to all Cape York and Torres Strait Island artists for the chance to take part in a once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase their talents while developing their arts practice and professional business acumen.
10 November 2020 - 10:38AM
The Cape York and Torres Strait Island Regional Arts Showcase will be held from 9-13 June 2021 as part of the Cooktown & Cape York Expo.
Forty artists from across the Cape and Torres Strait will be selected to take part in the program that includes mentoring from industry professionals; workshops on pitching, arts management and skills development and networking events. Performing artists will also have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and showcase their work at the Reconciliation Rocks Festival (11-13 June 2021) while visual artists will have their works showcased at an exclusive exhibition and opening night event being held on 12 June 2021.
Artists will also receive an artist’s fee, four nights’ accommodation in Cooktown for artists traveling to attend from across the Cape, as well as a per diem allowance for travel and attendance days.
“This is a truly wonderful opportunity to not only showcase, but also develop in an authentic and meaningful way, the rich and diverse array of artists, performers and creative talent from across the Cape and Torres Strait Islands,” said Vanessa Gillen, Creative Director, Cooktown & Cape York Expo 2021
“We are so excited to be able to welcome the successful applicants to Cooktown for the Expo, host them for the duration of their stay, introduce them to their mentors and industry peers and then to showcase their work while they’re here,” said Cook Shire Mayor, Cr Peter Scott.
