BE INFORMED; GET INVOLVED AT COOK SHIRE'S COMMUNITY UPDATE EVENTS

Cook Shire Council is pleased to announce two casual and informal community update events being held at the Cooktown Shire Hall on Thursday 16 March and Saturday 18 March 2023.

Cook Shire Council is pleased to announce two casual and informal Community Update Events being held at the Cooktown Shire Hall on Thursday 16 March and Saturday 18 March 2023.

The events will highlight Council initiatives and provide updates on capital works projects, Cooktown Discovery Festival 2023, local housing, development applications, planning processes, and the 2024 Local Government Election.

Cook Shire Mayor Peter Scott said, “We are excited to host these community update events, which provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about what’s happening in our community and get involved in Council initiatives. We look forward to seeing everyone there.”

At the events, Council will provide an update on our position on the Uluru Statement from the Heart and how it aligns with Council’s forthcoming Reconciliation Action Plan.

In addition to the Uluru Statement from the Heart, Council will provide updates on major capital works projects in the Shire, including Stage 5 of the upgrade to Charlotte Street, which includes works at the Cooktown Wharf. The community can also learn more about the Cooktown Discovery Festival 2023 and how they can get involved.

Finally, Council will provide information on development applications and planning processes, as well as the upcoming 2024 Local Government Election. Mayor Scott said, “We encourage anyone who is interested in being a Councillor to come along and learn more about the role and responsibilities of a Councillor.”

The Community Update Events will be held on Thursday 16 March from 4 – 6 pm and Saturday 18 March from 10 am -12 pm at the Shire Hall. Light refreshments will be provided.
