PROJECT NAME

STAGE 5 REVITALISATION OF CHARLOTTE STREET, COOKTOWN
LOCATION Charlotte Street, Cooktown Wharf Area (from Seaview Hotel to Webber Esp. joining the water front area)              
ESTIMATED START DATE April - May 2023 (subject to award of tender)
FUNDED BY This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government's Road to Recovery Program and the Queensland Government's Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS).
PROJECT OVERVIEW

Stage 5: Cooktown Wharf and Waterfront area includes:

  • Construction of kerb and channels, concrete medians, concrete shared path and ramps, traffic islands concrete infilling
  • Road and parking pavement construction, including bitumen seal and asphalt concrete surfacing
  • Creation of new car parking and several dedicated boat and trailer parking bays
  • Water and waste water irrigation, drainage upgrade
  • Signage and line marking 
  • Landscaping and general beautification of area
PROJECT PURPOSE

To upgrade the Wharf and Waterfront area improving the safety footprint and functionality to accommodate the community as well as the beatification works required to sustain the tourism industry.

Works will Improve trafficability, provide better pedestrian safety, more parking spaces and overall beautification and landscaping for social activation of area for community in general.

IMPACT OF WORKS 

Expect traffic interruptions and/or limited/restricted access during the construction period.

Traffic management plan and control measures will be in place. Due to heavy construction machinery operating in the area, noise, dust and vibrations to be expected during working hours, however, appropriate controls will be in place to minimize the inconveniences. Do not enter the construction and heavy machinery operations zone.

Follow the traffic management instructions, road signage and any installed detours.
