RATES RELIEF FOR THOSE IMPACTED BY TC JASPER AND ASSOCIATED RAINFALL & FLOODING
In response to the impact of Tropical Cyclone Jasper and the ensuing rainfall and flooding in December 2023, we are committed to supporting our community members facing financial hardship. Our newly established TC Jasper and Associated Rainfall & Flooding Policy aims to provide relief to property owners adversely affected by these natural disasters.
The policy outlines guidelines for offering rates relief to property owners experiencing financial strain due to TC Jasper's aftermath.
While providing assistance, we maintain our responsibility to recover outstanding debts. The policy allows for consideration of applications for financial aid from ratepayers severely impacted by TC Jasper.
Under the Local Government Regulation 2012, eligible ratepayers may receive deferment or waiver of interest charges for their rates and charges upon demonstrating TC Jasper's impact.
To qualify, applicants must own the affected property and complete the designated application form. Approval rests with the Chief Executive Officer or an authorized delegate, considering the evidence provided.
We may offer:
- Freezing of interest for up to 12 months
- Deferment of rates payment for up to 12 months
Residents impacted by TC Jasper and the associated rainfall and flooding are encouraged to contact Council on 4082 0500 as soon as you receive your rates notice and are requested to submit your request for rates relief BEFORE your rates are due.
For more information, please review the policy.
