MEDIA RELEASE | COOK SHIRE ANNOUNCES INCOMING CEO
02 June 2022 - 11:10AM
With current Cook Shire CEO Linda Cardew due to retire in coming months, Cook Shire Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Brian Joiner to the role of Chief Executive Officer following his endorsement at the May ordinary council meeting. With extensive executive leadership experience in local and federal government, as well as private enterprise, Mr Joiner’s appointment represents Council's ambition to maintain the strong, innovative leadership Ms Cardew has provided the high-performing Council. “Brian also has demonstrated experience driving and delivering dynamic and synergistic investment and economic development opportunities to regional areas, and communities,” said Cook Shire Mayor Peter Scott. “This aligns with Council’s focus on strengthening, growing and future-proofing our Shire, and the community of Cape York.” |

Most recently, in his role as CEO for the Shire of Menzies in Western Australia, Mr Joiner has been highly active in bringing growth and investment to the Shire, and the greater Goldfields region.
“Brian’s extensive experience leading major air and seaport infrastructure projects, and developing the essential trade and travel infrastructure for the communities in which he has served, will be an asset to our Shire,” said Mayor Scott.
“I am very confident Brian will form a strong bond with our Councillors, community and staff and we look forward to him embedding his expertise and management into our organisation,” said Mayor Scott.
Having lived and worked in remote communities for much of his life and career, Mr Joiner will be relocating to Cooktown with his wife Eve ahead of commencing his new role as CEO in August.
