Council unveils two new grants targeting safer communities and environmental innovation

Cook Shire is pleased to announce the launch of two new funding opportunities aimed at bolstering community security and fostering environmental innovation within the region.

The Cook Shire Security Upgrade Grants and Environmental Innovation Grants reflect our commitment to enhancing safety measures and promoting sustainability initiatives across our diverse communities.

Designed to support eligible local businesses and organisations, the Security Upgrade program aims to empower enterprises to strengthen their security measures to help safeguard their businesses, but also to foster a greater sense of security within the community.

“From installation of CCTV cameras and security alarms, to improving lighting and anti-vandalism initiatives, these grants are our response to the evolving security landscape and the need to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents,” said outgoing Mayor Peter Scott.

The Environmental Innovation grants support initiatives that contribute to environmental conservation, biodiversity preservation, and the reduction of the carbon footprint within the region. These grants will prioritise projects that offer innovative approaches to Waste management and recycling, renewable energy adoption, the conservation of natural habitats and sustainable agriculture practices.

Mayor Scott noted that Council is aiming the environmental grants will encourage local innovation and collaboration in addressing environmental challenges and promoting a greener, more sustainable future for our communities.

Eligible organisations interested in applying for either the Security Upgrade Grants or the Environmental Innovation Grants are encouraged to visit the Cook Shire website for more information and application guidelines. The application period is open from Tuesday, 2 April 2024 to Tuesday, 16 April 2024.
