On Saturday 15 May 2021, Coen SES and the Rural Fire Service held a Get Ready Coen recruitment day in partnership with Cook Shire Council through the Get Ready Queensland fund, which resulted in a record number of new recruits signing up on the day.
Families dropped by to enjoy the community barbeque as children (and the young at heart) had the chance to sit in a real fire truck and watch a demonstration of the "jaws of life."
To help them prepare for disaster, attendees on the day were encouraged to fill out their all-important "What If?" plans. Everyone who did, as well as the new recruits who signed up, then went into a draw to win prizes. Charles Coleman was the main prize winner who took home the coveted 2kva generator.
