The road to recovery: Cook Shire seeks community feedback after TC Jasper floods
In the wake of the devastating impact of the flooding events following Tropical Cyclone Jasper, Cook Shire Council is formally announcing our transition from immediate disaster response to long-term recovery efforts, by hosting a series of Community Recovery Forums.
13 February 2024 - 04:27PM
These forums play a vital role in our ongoing recovery journey, providing residents with essential updates, opportunities for feedback, and a chance to actively participate in shaping our collective path to recovery.
"We recognise the importance of engaging with our community as we navigate this transition from response to recovery," said Mayor Peter Scott. "These Community Recovery Forums are a testament to our commitment to transparency, collaboration, and ensuring that our residents are at the forefront of our recovery efforts."
The forums will feature updates and plans from Council and community service providers, offering residents valuable insights into the road ahead. Heather Kelly, Disaster Recovery Coordinator, emphasised the significance of community involvement in the recovery process.
"As we move forward, it's essential that we harness the collective experience and resilience of our community," said Mrs. Kelly. "These forums provide a platform for residents to share their stories, voice their concerns, and contribute to the development of recovery strategies that address the diverse needs of our community to help us build resilience."
"These forums are an integral part of our transition to the recovery phase," emphasised Mayor Scott. "We encourage all residents impacted by the floods to join us as we come together to chart the course for our community's future."
