PUBLIC NOTICE | COOKTOWN STATE SCHOOL TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADE
Please be advised that works to improve pedestrian safety and bus access to the carpark and bus zone at Cooktown P-12 State School are due to commence on Friday 10 December 2021.
01 December 2021 - 04:34PM
In order to minimize the impact on the community, these works have been scheduled to be undertaken during 2021-22 school holiday period, with an estimated date of completion as 31 January 2022.
Works will include the following:
(i) Construction of footpath on North side of Charles Street up to the pedestrian crossing in front of school entrance
(ii) Modification of traffic island on Charles Street and May Street intersection
(iii) Modification of islands in school carpark, and
(iv) Repainting and signage of bus-only area
If accessing this area during the construction period, please be aware of workers in the area, pay attention to any signage and drive to conditions.
In order to address several safety and visibility concerns, Council has identified that some small-to-medium trees in the school carpark will need to be removed. These trees are identified in the image below. Council has informed the school and other immediately impacted stakeholders.
Thank you for your understanding as we work to improve and enhance the safety of our community.
If you have any questions, queries, or concerns, please contact Council’s Infrastructure team on 4082 0500.
