Love coffee, Cooktown and Cape York? Volunteer now!
If you’re passionate about Cooktown and Cape York, love people and customer service, Cook Shire Council would love to hear from you!
With the approaching tourist season, the Cooktown & Cape York Expo 2021 on 11-20 June, and the whole of Australia being encouraged to holiday within our shores, Council is expecting a bumper tourist season and are looking for dedicated and reliable volunteers to help out at the Visitors Information Centre and Vera Scarth-Johnson Gallery, located at Nature’s Powerhouse in the heart of the picturesque Cooktown Botanic Gardens.
Day-to-day duties will include providing travelers and visitors to the information centre with helpful and historical information about Cooktown and Cape York, answering telephone enquiries, sales, and customer service at the gift store, assisting at the Vera Scarth-Johnson Gallery, and some light administration and clerical duties as required.
The Visitors Information Centre is open seven days a week and interested applicants will need to be available between 10 am – 2 pm at least one day a week.
In return, volunteers will be provided with onsite training, complimentary coffee, and a delicious lunch from Nature’s Powerhouse on the days they are rostered.
Applications must close on Thursday 22 April 2021. Successful applicants will be contacted after this date.
To apply, please review Council’s Volunteer Policy then forward a 1-page cover letter outlining your suitability for the role as well as any relevant experience you might have along with a completed copy of Council’s Volunteer Registration Form and return it to Council by email, post or in-person before 5 pm Thursday 22 April 2021.
Please note that if you are sending your application by post, you must allow time sufficient time for Council to receive it prior to the deadline.
