Community and Economic Development Grant Program

2016-17 Round Two applications closed on Friday, March 10 2017. 

Council's Community and Economic Development Grant program aims to assist residents of Cook Shire through funding for activities that promote community and/or economic improvement within the region.

Community Development initiatives - up to $2000

Community Development Grants aim to provide assistance to not for profit organisations, groups and individuals who make a positive contribution to the quality of life of the community or offer benefit to the Shire as a whole, through projects, activities and events.

Objectives:

  • Improve the capacity and well-being of the Cook Shire community
  • Improve the quality and opportunities for use of public space across the region
  • Increase and encourage active community participation

Priority Areas:

Round two focus – Improved governance and sustainability of organisations. Examples include:

  • Event management – programs to build event management skills
  • Committee capacity building – attracting key committee members and volunteers
  • Governance principles – cloud based governance programs and portable computer equipment (see application for details)

Projects outside the priority areas will also be considered.

Economic Development initiatives - up to $5000

Economic Development funding aims to provide assistance for eligible organisations, groups or individuals to conduct projects, activities and events that will result in a demonstrated economic benefit to the Cook Shire region.

Objectives:

  • Improve the Cook Shire regional economy through immediate, medium and long term achievements
  • Provide opportunities for business success, economic development and economic diversity across the region
  • Expand organisations’ capacity to provide ongoing services that directly influence our regional economy

Priority Areas:

Round two focus – Strengthening the tourism, innovation and digital opportunities within the Shire. Examples include:

  • Indigenous tourism initiatives
  • Inspiring innovation, entrepreneurship and start up capability
  • Utilising digital technology including NBN to enhance economic opportunities

Projects outside the priority areas will also be considered.

Financial In-Kind Support

The Financial In-Kind Support program aims to provide assistance to community organisations who make a positive contribution to the quality of life of the community or offer benefit to the Shire as a whole, through projects, activities and events.
The objectives are to:

  • Improve the capacity and wellbeing of the Cook Shire community
  • Improve the quality and opportunities for use of public space across the region
  • Expand community organisations' capacity to provide ongoing services
  • Increase and encourage active community participation
