PUBLIC NOTICE | TEMPORARY REMOVAL OF COUNCIL'S REMOTE SKIP WASTE BINS
The community is being advised that due to the forecast of above-average rainfall and an increased likelihood of an early wet season, Council is temporarily removing skip bins at some remote and hard-to-access locations.
14 October 2022 - 01:46PM
Remote waste skip bins located at Starke River Boat Ramp, Annie River Boat Ramp (Marina Plains) and Port Stewart are anticipated to be temporarily removed in the coming weeks ahead of the forecasted wet weather season.
Forecasted heavy rains, flooding and road closures make it impossible for Council trucks to access, remove and replace the bins. As the bins fill up with waste and water, they become a hazard.
In the interest of public health and safety, the bins will be temporarily removed until we can resume regular service.
Alternate waste facilities are located at the Cooktown Waste Transfer Station (WTS), Lakeland WTS, Ayton WTS, Laura WTS, Coen Landfill, Portland Roads Waste Facility and Moreton Telegraph Slit Trench on the Telegraph Road.
We encourage the community to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible and to access alternative waste facilities until service to these remote locations can be resumed.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
