PROJECT NAME

COOKTOWN STATE SCHOOL TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT
LOCATION Charles St., May St. and Cooktown State School Carpark                              
FUNDED BY This project received funding from the Queensland Government acting through Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) under Queensland School Transport Infrastructure Program (STIP)
PROJECT OVERVIEW

The project included collaboration with the school and the bus service provider to design and deliver the following works:

  • Construction of footpath on North side of Charles Street up to the pedestrian crossing in front of school entrance
  • Modification of traffic island on Charles Street and May Street intersection
  • Modification of islands in school carpark, and
  • Signage for bus-only area
  • Resealing and Line marking
PROJECT PURPOSE In response to community feedback, Council secured funding from the Queensland Government through the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) School Transport Infrastructure Program (STIP) to upgrade the school car park and the north side of Charles Street, improving safety, functionality and visibility in the area, especially during busy school pick-up and drop-periods.
IMPACT OF WORKS Traffic interruptions, limited/restricted access for general traffic during the construction period, traffic management plan and control measures will be in place
