Cooktown Foreshore And Webber Esplanade Revitalisation Project

The Cooktown Foreshore and Webber Esplanade Revitalisation Project is one of four precincts of the Waterfront Master Plan, comprising of a large section of reclaimed land protecting the existing access road and historic Powder Magazine site. The project will include a children's water play area, kiosk and toilets, barbecues, parklands, fishing platforms and a waterfront walk and is expected to be finalised in 2018.

Successful applications to the state government's Royalties for Regions and Local Government Grants and Subsidies programs provided $3.5 million and $500,000 respectively, to allow completion of the Cooktown Foreshore and Webber Esplanade Revitalisation project. Council has been working towards this key development for the past 11 years.

The Waterfront Master Plan (2012) identifies how public investment in community infrastructure will be a catalyst for private investment in the town, providing an economically diverse approach to regional growth.

The Cooktown Foreshore and Webber Esplanade Revitalisation project was proudly funded by and is a joint project of the Queensland Government's Royalties for the Regions program, Local Government Grants and Subsidies program, and Cook Shire Council.

Reports

Works were briefly halted, followed by an exhaustive review phase and remediation, after a complaint into the site's structural integrity was made to the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection in late 2015.
