Cook Shire Council wishes to advise residents, businesses, and road users that Ergon Energy will soon commence a multi-stage street lighting upgrade along Charlotte Street, Cooktown.
These works are part of Ergon’s infrastructure improvement program aimed at enhancing public safety and delivering better, more energy-efficient lighting in our main town centre.
Staged Construction Schedule
The upgrade will be delivered in four stages:
- Stage 1: Roundabout to Hogg Street
Scheduled to commence 28 April 2025 - Stage 2: Hogg Street to Furneaux Street
Planned for mid-May to early June 2025 - Stage 3: Furneaux Street to Hill Street
Tentatively scheduled for late June to early July 2025 (TBC) - Stage 4: Hill Street to near Milbi Wall
Tentatively scheduled for late July to early August 2025 (TBC)
What to Expect:
- Temporary traffic disruptions are expected throughout the construction period.
- Traffic control and signage will be in place to assist road users and ensure safety.
- Pedestrians and drivers are asked to follow all traffic guidance systems and signage in the area.
- There will be intermittent power outages during some phases of the works. Ergon will provide affected customers with advance notice regarding these outages.
