MICROCHIPPING
Under Queensland Government legislation, animals born after April 2009 must be microchipped.
A microchip is a small electronic identification tag that is inserted by a needle just under the skin between your pets shoulder blades. The procedure is quick, safe and easy and side effects are very uncommon. The microchip is implanted permanently, making it much more reliable than a tag on the collar of your pet.
If your pet ever goes missing and ends up at an animal management facility or vet, it will be scanned with a microchip reader to check for a microchip. The microchip contains a 15 digit unique identification number that is linked to the owner, through an online microchip registry. The microchip registry safely stores your address and contact details so that your pet can be returned to you.
Council offers microchipping for only $35 per eligible pet. Bookings are essential. Please call 4082 0500 to book.
If you move or change your phone number, make sure you update your details with the online registry. Click the link below to find out where your pets microchip details are lodged, and to change your details.
