DO BUSINESS
Cook Shire Council is committed to leading the economic development and promotion of our region, leveraging Cook Shire’s unique assets to ensure long-term prosperity and job creation. To achieve this, in 2016 Council developed an Economic Development Plan (EDP) as strategic framework designed to guide and inform economic activities and projects across the Shire. This plan is currently being reviewed.
The EDP serves as a key resource for Council and its stakeholders, offering a structured approach to economic development initiatives. Through the operational plan, the EDP is translated into actionable steps, outlining specific activities, projects, and budget allocations. This plan also aligns with the broader Tropical North Queensland Regional Economic Plan, working in collaboration with key economic bodies and neighboring local governments, including Tablelands, Cairns, and Cassowary Coast.
The primary goals of the Cook Shire Council Economic Development Plan are to:
- Establish a strong foundation for regional economic success and prosperity
- Strengthen industries with significant growth potential
- Foster new employment opportunities across various industries and skill levels
- Council is dedicated to building a sustainable economy that competes effectively on regional, national, and international stages, positioning Cook Shire as a formidable contender among other prominent local government areas. Economic diversification and the development of key industries are essential to creating a resilient economy that benefits our communities.
