RIGHT TO INFORMATION
The Right to Information Act 2009 provides access to government information unless, on balance, it is contrary to the public interest to provide that information. The Act is complemented by the Information Privacy Act 2009 which establishes a right to access and to amend personal information.
Right to Information (RTI)
The RTI Act covers documents of a non-personal nature that cannot be accessed from another source, for example Council Webpage.
To make a RTI application:
- Submit your application using RTI IP Access application formÂ
- Pay the RTI application fee
- Provide contact details, an address for documentation and notices to be sent to and any relevant proof of identification
- Provide a specific description of the information you require
- Lodge your application in person at Council’s Administration Building or by post to Cook Shire Council PO BOX 3, Cooktown 4895 or by e-mail to mail@cook.qld.gov.au.
Information Privacy (IP)
The IP Act sets out the ways in which Council and Queensland government agencies manage your personal information. You can access your personal information and advise us about any changes or amendments to your personal information.
To make an IP application:
- Submit your application using the RTI IP Access Application Form . No fees apply.
- Provide proof of your identify within 10 business days of lodging your application.
- Lodge your application in person at Council’s Administration Building or by post to Cook Shire Council PO BOX 3, Cooktown 4895 or by e-mail to mail@cook.qld.gov.au.
Note: all RTI and IP applications must be submitted using the prescribed form.
