CHICKENS AND POULTRY
Cook Shire Council oversees the keeping of animals, including poultry and birds, to ensure their presence maintains harmony within the community. Here are the key points to consider
Approval Requirement:
Depending on your property size, you may need approval to keep poultry or birds. If so, you must submit an application for permission to maintain additional animals.
General Standards:
There are standard regulations applicable throughout Cook Shire for animal keeping. It is essential that animals do not:
- Cause disturbances or nuisances.
- Pose significant health and safety risks to people or other animals.
- Instill reasonable apprehension of health and safety risks.
- Diminish the overall quality of life.
If you’re unsure about your property size or need more information on obtaining approval for additional animals, don’t hesitate to contact the Council’s Local Laws Team at 4082 0500. They’ll provide the guidance you need.
