Council Update: Rail Trail Boardwalk Project

Cook Shire Council acknowledges the strong community interest in the Stay Another Day Rail Trail Boardwalk project and is pleased to provide the following update.

This project is a community-led initiative located on Council-managed land. The development application, submitted by South Cape York Catchments and approved in 2024, proposed a 110-metre boardwalk at the Racecourse end of the trail. Funding and delivery have been made possible through Gungarde Community Centre Aboriginal Corporation.

Council has supported the vision of this project over a number of years and recognises its value in enhancing local recreational infrastructure. While the project has not been part of Council’s capital works program, officers have provided support as needed to assist with delivery on public land.

Council congratulates those involved for their ongoing commitment to improving public spaces and thanks the community for its continued interest and support.
