EXTENDED UNTIL SUNDAY 20 JULY 2025
Due to the shortage of 240L wheelie bins, Cook Shire Council is offering fee-free* disposal of domestic waste for residents whose bins were not collected, and have been issued with a non-compliance notice.
Due to high demand, 240L bins have temporarily sold out, however new stock is expected to arrive by 10am this Sunday at the Cooktown Waste Transfer Station. 120L bins are still available.
This interim measure is available until close of business Sunday 20 July 2025 and applies to waste delivered to the Cooktown, Laura, or Ayton Waste Transfer Stations during standard operating hours.
To ensure this support is provided to the right households, residents must present
- A current rates notice showing the property address, or
- Photo identification that matches the residential address of the affected property.
The damaged bin must be:
- A 240L bin funded through Council rates
- Displaying a Council-issued non-compliance notice
- Matched to the bin size listed on the property’s rates notice
This measure has been introduced while the community transitions to fully compliant bins under Council’s bin labelling program.
Council also wishes to acknowledge and thank the many residents who have already taken steps to comply – including purchasing replacement bins online or while travelling to Cairns.
